Our Vision

The vision of the BYU Mathematics Education Department is that students in mathematics classrooms at all levels (elementary, secondary, and post-secondary) will be engaged in authentic mathematical work; will develop deep, connected understanding of mathematics; and will be empowered to effectively use their mathematical knowledge outside of the classroom.

Utah Council of Teachers of Mathematics has chosen Jackie Voyles as this year’s recipient of the Don Clark Award for a lifetime of achievement and excellence in mathematics education.

Math Graduate Sharon Christensen, Finalist for Presidential Award

Sharon Christensen, a graduate from the masters program in the Mathematics Education Department, is currently a teacher at Mountain Ridge Junior High in Highland, Utah. She has been selected as a finalist for the Presidential Award. This is the highest honor for math and science educators grades kindergarten through 12. Dan Siebert - New Associate Chair

Dan Siebert will be replacing Blake Peterson as the new associate chair of the Math Education department. Dan will begin this new position in the Fall 2011 semester. A special thanks to Blake for all of his hard work!

BYU Mathematics Eduation Association

Mathematics: Education for Eternity

MEA is a student organization with a goal to provide all students interested in mathematics education with additional tools and resources to help them become better math educators and also to promote unity among the students within the math education major.

MEA activities are designed to help the BYU students incorporate this motto into their education and their future careers. Activities provided by the association include lectures, workshops and socials which are intended to enrich the education of the members in ways that they will be able to pass on to their future students.
