Mission Statement
Our mission is to prepare professional, knowledgeable, and caring mathematics teachers and mathematics teacher leaders of K-16 mathematics who support our vision by skillfully developing mathematical understanding and practices in intellectually engaging and equitable classroom environments. We engage in high-quality, high-impact research in order to provide the best education and inspiring learning opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students. In all that we do, we support the Aims of a BYU Education; that education should be spiritually strengthening, intellectually enlarging, and character building, leading to lifelong learning and service. By educating teachers and engaging in research we positively influence the broader mathematics education community and make an impact on the world.
We accomplish our mission by providing a unified program of classroom, field, and mentored experiences. We model high-quality instruction that provides opportunities for preservice teachers to engage in authentic mathematical activity, work with teachers and students in secondary mathematics classrooms and engage with faculty in extramural research, teaching and service activities. Our instruction and our program development are grounded in our vision and enriched by our ongoing research.
