Course Permission
The courses MthEd 276, MthEd 277, MthEd 377 and 378 all require special permission to add. The following are descriptions for how to obtain this permission and add these particular courses.

MthEd 276: In order to add this class, you must receive permission from the Department of Mathematics Education and from the Education Student Services Office. To do this, you must email 276@mathed.byu.edu and include your Net ID or student ID number. The Department of Mathematics Education will check to see if you meet the prerequisites (that you will have completed Math 113, 290, 313 and MthEd 177 with a C or better before the beginning of the semester for which you are registering). If you meet these requirements, you will be granted permission from the Department of Mathematics Education and you will receive an email telling you to get your fingerprinting and background clearance done. Once your background check clears, you will receive an email from the Education Student Services Office telling you and then you can add the class.

MthEd 277: Students must be formally admitted to the major (which happens in MthEd 276) before they can register for this course. The online registration checks to see if students have been admitted to the major as they try to register MthEd 277. If you have successfully completed MthEd 276 or an equivalent course in another teaching major but are still unable to register for MthEd 277, please email office@mathed.byu.edu. If you are currently enrolled in MthEd 276 or an equivalent course in another teaching major, you must wait until you have been accepted into the major before you can register for MthEd 277.

MthEd 377 and 378: These courses should be taken the last semester before student teaching. To be cleared to add MthEd 377, email Dr. Amy Tanner (atanner@mathed.byu.edu) with your Net ID or student ID number. To add 378, you must have a current background clearance flag. Note that you must take Mthed 378 concurrently with Mthed 377.
